This privacy notice for Softgolf LLC (doing business as SoftGolf) (“we,” “us,” or “our”) describes how and why we might collect, store, use, and/or share (“process”) your information when you use our services (“Services”), such as when you:
- Visit our website at https://softgolf.io, or any website of ours that links to this privacy notice
- Download and use our SoftGolf mobile application (the “App”), available from the Apple App Store, or any application of ours that links to this privacy notice
- Engage with us in other related ways, including any sales, marketing, or events
Questions or concerns? Reading this privacy notice will help you understand your privacy rights and choices. If you do not agree with our policies and practices, please do not use our Services. If you still have any questions or concerns, please contact us at info@softgolf.io.
1. What information do we collect?
Personal information you disclose to us
In short: We collect personal information that you provide to us.
We collect personal information that you voluntarily provide to us when you register on the Services, express an interest in obtaining information about us or our products and Services, when you participate in activities on the Services, or otherwise when you contact us. Depending on how you use the Services, this may include:
- Names and display names
- Email addresses
- Phone numbers (if you choose to add one to your organizer profile)
- Profile photos and other pictures you choose to upload from your photo library (for example, profile pictures, tournament cover photos, and event media) — the App does not access your camera or microphone
- Golf profile data you provide, such as your handicap, scores and scorecards, and tournaments you create or join
- Contact or authentication data (for example, the one-time sign-in codes we email you)
- Billing details you provide during a ticket purchase (name and email; card details go directly to Stripe — see Payment Data below)
We do not collect passwords (signing in uses Apple, Google, or one-time email codes), and we do not collect gender, age, or job titles.
Sensitive information. With your permission, we process precise geolocation from your device, only while you are using the App, to find golf tournaments and courses near you. iOS will ask for your permission before any location access, and you may decline or revoke it at any time in your device Settings; the Services remain usable without it.
Payment data. If you make a purchase, payment is processed by Stripe. Card numbers and security codes are provided by you directly to Stripe through Stripe Checkout — SoftGolf never receives or stores your card numbers. You may find Stripe’s privacy notice here: https://stripe.com/privacy.
Social media login data. We provide you with the option to register and sign in using your existing Apple or Google account. If you choose to register in this way, we will collect the information described in the section called “How do we handle your social logins?” below.
All personal information that you provide to us must be true, complete, and accurate, and you must notify us of any changes to such personal information.
Information automatically collected
In short: Some information — such as your Internet Protocol (IP) address and/or browser and device characteristics — is collected automatically when you visit our Services.
We automatically collect certain information when you visit, use, or navigate the Services. This information does not reveal your specific identity (like your name or contact information) but may include device and usage information, such as your IP address, browser and device characteristics, operating system, language preferences, referring URLs, device name, country, general location, information about how and when you use our Services, and other technical information. This information is primarily needed to maintain the security and operation of our Services, and for our internal analytics and reporting purposes. The information we collect includes:
- Log and usage data: service-related, diagnostic, usage, and performance information our servers automatically collect when you access or use our Services (such as IP address, device information, browser type, the date/time stamps and features associated with your usage, and error reports)
- Device data: information about the computer, phone, or tablet you use to access the Services, such as IP address, device identifiers, hardware model, operating system, and configuration information
- Location data: precise device location only as described under Sensitive information above (foreground-only, with your permission), and imprecise location inferred from your IP address
We do not purchase or receive information about you from public databases, data brokers, marketing partners, or similar outside sources.
2. How do we process your information?
In short: We process your information to provide, improve, and administer our Services, communicate with you, for security and fraud prevention, and to comply with law. We may also process your information for other purposes with your consent.
- To facilitate account creation and authentication and otherwise manage user accounts
- To deliver and facilitate delivery of services to the user — for example, running tournaments, scorecards, and live leaderboards
- To respond to user inquiries and offer support
- To send administrative information to you, such as details about changes to our terms and policies
- To fulfill and manage ticket orders and payments made through the Services
- To enable user-to-user features — for example, names, scores, and leaderboards are visible to other participants in a tournament, and public tournament pages are visible to anyone
- To request feedback and to contact you about your use of our Services
- To send you marketing and promotional communications about SoftGolf, in accordance with your preferences — you can opt out at any time
- To protect our Services, including fraud monitoring and prevention
- To identify usage trends and improve the Services
- To save or protect an individual's vital interest, such as to prevent harm
3. What legal bases do we rely on to process your personal information?
In short: We only process your personal information when we believe it is necessary and we have a valid legal reason to do so under applicable law.
If you are located in the EU or UK, this section applies to you.
The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and UK GDPR require us to explain the valid legal bases we rely on to process your personal information:
- Consent — where you have given us permission to use your personal information for a specific purpose (for example, precise location access). You can withdraw your consent at any time.
- Performance of a contract — where processing is necessary to provide the Services you have requested.
- Legitimate interests — for example, to diagnose problems and prevent fraud, analyze how our Services are used so we can improve them, and tell our users about our own products and features.
- Legal obligations — where processing is necessary to comply with law, such as cooperating with law enforcement or defending our legal rights.
- Vital interests — where necessary to protect your vital interests or those of a third party.
If you are located in Canada, this section applies to you.
We may process your information if you have given us specific permission (express consent), or in situations where your permission can be inferred (implied consent). You can withdraw your consent at any time. In some exceptional cases, we may be legally permitted under applicable law to process your information without consent — for example, for investigations and fraud detection, to comply with a subpoena or court order, or where collection is clearly in the interests of an individual and consent cannot be obtained in a timely way.
5. What is our stance on third-party websites?
In short: We are not responsible for the safety of any information that you share with third parties that we may link to or who advertise on our Services, but are not affiliated with our Services.
The Services may link to third-party websites, online services, or mobile applications (for example, an organizer’s own website or a sponsor’s page) that are not affiliated with us. We do not make any guarantee regarding such third parties, and we will not be liable for any loss or damage caused by their use. Any data collected by third parties is not covered by this privacy notice. You should review the policies of such third parties and contact them directly with questions.
8. Is your information transferred internationally?
In short: We may transfer, store, and process your information in countries other than your own.
Our servers are located in the United States and Canada. If you are accessing our Services from outside those countries, please be aware that your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed by us and our service providers in the United States, Canada, and other countries. If you are a resident of the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or Switzerland, these countries may not have data protection laws as comprehensive as those in your country; we take measures to protect your personal information in accordance with this privacy notice and applicable law, including using the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses where appropriate. Details can be provided upon request.
9. How long do we keep your information?
In short: We keep your information for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes outlined in this privacy notice unless otherwise required by law.
We will only keep your personal information for as long as it is necessary for the purposes set out in this privacy notice, unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law (such as tax or accounting requirements). No purpose in this notice will require us keeping your personal information for longer than the period of time in which you have an account with us. When we have no ongoing legitimate business need to process your personal information, we will either delete or anonymize it, or, if this is not possible (for example, because it is stored in backup archives), we will securely store it and isolate it from further processing until deletion is possible.
10. How do we keep your information safe?
In short: We aim to protect your personal information through a system of organizational and technical security measures.
We have implemented appropriate and reasonable technical and organizational security measures designed to protect the security of any personal information we process. However, despite our safeguards, no electronic transmission over the Internet or information storage technology can be guaranteed to be 100% secure, so we cannot promise that hackers, cybercriminals, or other unauthorized third parties will not be able to defeat our security. Transmission of personal information to and from our Services is at your own risk, and you should only access the Services within a secure environment.
11. Do we collect information from minors?
In short: We do not knowingly collect data from or market to anyone under 18 years of age.
The Services are intended for users who are at least 18 years old, and we do not knowingly solicit data from or market to anyone under 18. By using the Services, you represent that you are at least 18. If we learn that personal information from users under 18 has been collected, we will deactivate the account and take reasonable measures to promptly delete such data from our records. If you become aware of any data we may have collected from anyone under 18, please contact us at info@softgolf.io.
12. What are your privacy rights?
In short: Depending on your region, you may have rights that allow you greater access to and control over your personal information. You may review, change, or delete your account at any time.
In some regions (like the EEA, UK, Switzerland, and Canada), you have rights under applicable data protection laws, which may include the right (i) to request access and obtain a copy of your personal information, (ii) to request rectification or erasure, (iii) to restrict its processing, (iv) if applicable, to data portability, and (v) not to be subject to automated decision-making. You can make such a request using the contact details in the section “How can you contact us about this notice?” below. If you are located in the EEA or UK and believe we are unlawfully processing your personal information, you have the right to complain to your data protection authority; in Switzerland, to the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner.
Withdrawing your consent: If we rely on your consent, you may withdraw it at any time — including revoking the App’s location permission in your device Settings — though this will not affect the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal.
Opting out of marketing: You can unsubscribe from our marketing emails at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in the emails we send or by contacting us. We may still send you service-related messages necessary for the administration of your account.
Account information
You can review or change your account information at any time in the App (Profile → Edit Profile) or on the website. You can delete your account directly in the App: go to the Profile tab and choose Delete Account. Deleting your account permanently deletes your profile and sign-in identifiers, revokes Sign in with Apple tokens, signs out all sessions, and deletes tournaments you host (tickets purchased for those tournaments are refunded). Content you contributed to tournaments run by others (for example, scores) is disconnected from your account and may remain, no longer linked to you. We may retain some information as required to prevent fraud, troubleshoot problems, enforce our legal terms, or comply with legal requirements.
If you have questions or comments about your privacy rights, you may email us at info@softgolf.io.
13. Controls for Do-Not-Track features
Most web browsers and some mobile operating systems include a Do-Not-Track (“DNT”) feature or setting. No uniform technology standard for recognizing and implementing DNT signals has been finalized, and as such we do not currently respond to DNT browser signals. If a standard is adopted that we must follow, we will inform you in a revised version of this privacy notice.
14. Do United States residents have specific privacy rights?
In short: If you are a resident of California, Colorado, Connecticut, or Virginia, you are granted specific rights regarding access to your personal information. We do not sell or share your personal information as those terms are defined under these laws, and we have not done so in the preceding twelve (12) months.
What categories of personal information do we collect?
We have collected the following categories of personal information in the past twelve (12) months:

- B. Personal information as defined in the California Customer Records statute (name, contact information) — YES

We disclose personal information to our service providers (Section 4) pursuant to written contracts for business purposes only. We do not sell personal information, we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, and we do not use targeting cookies, retargeting platforms, or ad networks.
Your rights
Depending on your state, you have the right to request to know what personal information we process, to access it, to correct inaccuracies, to request deletion, to obtain a copy, and to non-discrimination for exercising your rights. Because we do not sell personal data or process it for targeted advertising or profiling, there is nothing to opt out of under those provisions.
To exercise these rights, email info@softgolf.io or visit softgolf.io/contact-us. Upon receiving your request we will verify your identity by matching the information you provide against information we already hold (for example, by contacting the email address on your account), and we will respond within the timeframe required by your state’s law (generally 45 days, extendable once where permitted). You may designate an authorized agent, though we may deny a request from an agent who does not submit proof of valid authorization. If we decline to act on your request, you may appeal by emailing info@softgolf.io; we will respond to appeals in writing within the statutory period (45 days in Colorado; 60 days in Connecticut and Virginia), and if your appeal is denied you may contact your state Attorney General.
California “Shine The Light”
California Civil Code Section 1798.83 permits California residents to request, once a year and free of charge, information about categories of personal information (if any) we disclosed to third parties for direct marketing purposes. We do not disclose personal information to third parties for their direct marketing purposes. California residents may submit requests using the contact information below.
15. Do other regions have specific privacy rights?
Australia and New Zealand
We collect and process your personal information under the obligations and conditions set by Australia’s Privacy Act 1988 and New Zealand’s Privacy Act 2020. This privacy notice satisfies the notice requirements defined in both Acts. If you do not wish to provide the personal information necessary for a given purpose, it may affect our ability to provide our services. At any time, you have the right to request access to or correction of your personal information using the contact details in Section 18. If you believe we are unlawfully processing your personal information, you may submit a complaint to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner or the Office of the New Zealand Privacy Commissioner.
16. Do we make updates to this notice?
In short: Yes, we will update this notice as necessary to stay compliant with relevant laws.
We may update this privacy notice from time to time. The updated version will be indicated by an updated “Last updated” date and will be effective as soon as it is accessible. If we make material changes, we may notify you either by prominently posting a notice of such changes or by directly sending you a notification.
17. How can you contact us about this notice?

18. How can you review, update, or delete the data we collect from you?
Based on the applicable laws of your country or state, you may have the right to request access to the personal information we collect from you, change that information, or delete it. You can delete your account and its data directly in the App (Profile → Delete Account, described in Section 12), or request to review, update, or delete your personal information by visiting softgolf.io/contact-us.
7. How do we handle your social logins?
In short: If you choose to sign in with Apple or Google, we receive certain profile information from that provider.
Our Services offer you the ability to register and log in with your Apple or Google account. Where you choose to do this, we receive basic profile information from the provider — typically your name and email address (with Apple, you may choose to hide your email address, in which case we receive Apple’s private relay address). We use this information only for the purposes described in this privacy notice. We do not control, and are not responsible for, other uses of your personal information by Apple or Google — please review their privacy notices to understand their practices. Email sign-in is passwordless: we email you a one-time code or link instead of storing a password.
